Profile

Carolyn Keigley is a 5th generation Utahan with her family roots from the Brightons, William, Catherine and Annie Brighton. Although Carolyn was born and raised in Utah she left the state to attend college at UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and HSU in Arcata. She received her B.A and M.A. in studio art. Carolyn was an educator in the Tahoe area until 2008 when she retired from teaching and returned to her roots and built her home/art studio in the Forest Glen neighborhood located in Brighton.

While in California, Carolyn served on many volunteer positions including Arcata School Board of Trustees for seven years. As she served on this school board she realized she could make more of a difference by being in the classroom. Carolyn taught general education as an elementary teacher, High School art, college art studio and art history, and creative development in children for elementary teachers.

Since Carolyn has lived in Brighton she has and still serves on the Big Cottonwood Canyon Community Council for ten years including being the secretary until 2019. Carolyn was also on the BCCA’s Emergency Planning Committee. She was a co-founder of the Brighton Institute and still serves on that board as the secretary. Carolyn was one of the Five Town of Brighton Sponsors that ran the successful campaign of incorporating the Town of Brighton. Carolyn was elected to serve on the Town of Brighton Council in 1/2020.

As a town council member, Carolyn serves on the Short Term Committee, The Emergency Operational Plan Committee, and on the Board of Directors of the Greater Salt Lake Valley Police Department (Unified Police Department – UPD). As a board director for the UPD, Carolyn serves as UPD Committee Chairperson for the UPD Budget and Finance Committee.
